Review from Mike (BourbonEnthusiast Review ID 1970, Created:20110607195946) Purchased at: | Gift from Cheryl Lins, who autographed the bottled | Info on this bottle: | Rye Dog | Nose: | Rye grain, anise, mint, and a hint of toasted brown sugar all make it on to the aromatic stage. Rich and interesting organo fruity aromas too. Crisp, sharp, but not alcoholic, signifying a careful and well crafted distillation. | Taste: | Grainy and deep sweetness with the anise promised by the nose roaming about freely. Reminiscent of fruit cake in the dark fruit presence. Quite warm spices with cloves (which can be quite spicy) being the most prominent. | Finish: | Long and spicy with echoes of the sweetness remaining to tease the palate. Knife like in its precise and pinpoint attack, yet not overly aggressive because it is such a pure distillate. Cleansing, leaving the mouth refreshed and the palate alert. | Overall: | Excellent and somewhat exotic spirit in its smooth combination of grain, spice, sweetness and fruit which comes alive in the mouth. A great sip. |

Purchased at: | | Info on this bottle: | Sample from distiller | Nose: | Rye bread and citrus fruit. Very clean and fresh with a hint of something sweet in the background, maybe honey. | Taste: | Very nice. Sweet with a bit of honey suckle and fruit up front and some nice spice notes in the background. | Finish: | Very long and sweet, but spicey. The honey sweetness is well balanced with some sweet spice such as nutmeg or clove. | Overall: | This is a very nice rye white dog spirit (not whiskey since it has not been in wood) that shows how good white dog can be. I can't wait to get some aged whiskey. Deleware-Pheonix knows how to make it right, now I hope she ages it right. |
